Nnenna becomes pregnant with Chinelo just as her husband decides to take a second wife. It is a difficult and jealous family environment, but with the help of the wider community, Nnenna persists successfully with her independent economic activities, her pregnancy, and the upbringing of her daughter. But everything changes as tragedy strikes, Nnenna is killed and Chinelo, who is fast becoming a talented and independent young women, must return to her father and stepmother.
