Founded in Pietermaritzburg in 1851, the Natal Society has served the scientific and literary interests of the community of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, for more than 160 years.It founded a museum (now a leading national institution) and the largest privately owned library system in the country (now run by the city’s Msunduzi Municipality). The Occasional Publications of the Natal Society Foundation is an imprint that seeks to publish scholarly work of academic merit which is considered too narrow in focus or coverage for commercial publication.
