Promised a handsome reward of tobacco and todzihawo – Pasato a glib well-travelled man zealously convinces his compatriots to agree to perform Novishi and Kedzeanyi halo “drums” on board ships at anchor off the shore of Dzita. This is against opposition from a savage, pagan, primitive and backward few. Pasato, however, succeeds. But what gratification does he get from his tireless efforts?
