Hearthstones is a rich tapestry of spellbinding stories that revolve around three strong women: Chilufya - a medical doctor; Likande, a private-sector career woman; and Tengani, a politician and human rights activist. The evocative triangular narratives vividly bring to life the pains, hopes and impediments of being an outward-going African woman in a fast-changing society. Through spectacular application of ashbacks and ash-forwards, the author nostalgically interweaves the lives of the three, portraying the African woman in multi-layered scenarios as a housewife, career woman and politician.
